Copper Pennies

coffee in the after noon
chocolate cake and copper pennies
in a plate on the window sill
sunny days Summers coming
Tell me babe what time is it
Summer wakes i’d best be going
Summer days are not far away
Fire Island, Coney Island
girls and boys will lovers make
girls kiss girls and boys embrace
street cafe’s and chocolate cake
Summer sunshine on his face
--i heard you speak, what did you say?
and time is fleeting. another day
has come and gone. but will you stay?
the Summer sun, shines on his face

it’s 2020
he likes to sleep all day
dream about boys and girls
at night he likes to play
play the pano
new songs he likes to make
walking on water
and wine, he likes the taste
music and lovers
music and lovers
a boy he likes to meet
at night they like to play
lazy boys gather
new songs they like to make
like walking on water
walking on water.

Make a Wish

on Saturday night is a golden light
over the cars on a city street
and the moon is blue in the living room
when the movie is black and white
lets not cry over my spilt beer
but sometimes someone lights up the room
shatter
and chemistry can shatter the heart.
i can’t blame you for my blue mood
wishes and dreams might be about
some lonely boy in Brooklyn or France
i’ll try to make you part of my dance
on Saturday night is a golden light
over the cars on a city street
and the moon is blue in the living room
when the movie is black and white
wishes and dreams might be about
some lonely boy in Brooklyn or France
i’ll try to make you part of my dance

a Stone in a Road

what… a memory was
..a face in the mirror
a stone
a stone in the road
another song
but where did it go ?
when you look at me,
i’m a ship at sea
but i try to be ..
ill…turn on the tv
ill open a beer and see
what’s on
the face of a boy
a car on a road
a bird in a tree
ill fall in love,
wright another note
i’ll draw another boat
what ..has happened here
a trip across a road
we know
a way to the heart
no fear
can grow
it’s a mystery
what became of me
as i tried to be

Ricochet

these flickering thoughts
coming through the silence
from far away
……..ricochet
my head is a partner
who makes me sweat and pray
tosses me a few words
and turns the page
two boys in SanFrancisco
looking for a place
i let them have my floor to sleep
and Tom came by that day.
quarters in a bucket
my pay day
i sang in SanFrancisco
tips and smiles ..and cops
give me plastic flowers
on my birth day
i hope the lady on the corner
has a nice day
but i’m watching a computer
waiting for the play
as stay at home performers
ricochet

from rooms where no one knew me
Fastback and Russel took me
in cars and trains to to show me
electric bands that played with me
like helping hands that touched me
and Carl came and kissed me
and Carl came and kissed me
a window looks out on the night
moon light in a purple sky
an ambulance and a flashing light
a flashing light
waiting for the end of time
time stands still in the meantime
make a new song, sing an old song
every day a new disaster
waiting for the end of time
time stands still in the meantime
make a new song, sing an old song
every day a new disaster
Winter in New York was cold
in Harlem wisdom was old
welfare and work was what i meant
when i said music and food and rent
electric bands played for me
like helping hands, touched me
and the Brooklyn Music scene
and the Brooklyn Music scene
a window looks out on the night
moon light in a purple sky
an ambulance and a flashing light
a flashing light
waiting for the end of time
time stands still in the meantime
make a new song, sing an old song
every day a new disaster
waiting for the end of winter
time stands still in the meantime
make a new song, sing an old song
every day a new disaster
